Default Constant Disconnections!!

Heya all
Got home today and felt like playing some guild wars, was going well until i get what i assumed to be a lag spike. After about 30 seconds i realised this is probably not a lag spike, i then got the error 7 message. I kept logging in, managed to get into a good party and then get disconnected every single attempt following my first disconnection ( i tried about 5 times )

Anyone else been experiencing a similar problem??

Have you had problems before? Are your ports forwarded on your firewall (if you have one). Or maybe it could be your ISP having hiccoughs.

This should probably be in the Tech forum.

Yeah, except it was my modem dropping the connection every half hour or so >:

Yes everything is set up correctly its a sudden problem, nothing else internet related is causing me a problem so i assumed it would be something to do with guildwars.

I have these problems too. I highly doubt it is my ISP or my router...because back in the beta days I can play the game non-stop and don't experience any lag or err = 7.

The first to blame for me.. IS my ISP..
I'm assuming they keep resetting my connection.
I don't just lose Guild Wars, both AIM and XFire disconnect as well. The only thing that stays connected is teamspeak, and I think that has a longer timeout delay to avoid disconnections from things like that.

There are many factors that could have changed your situation since the beta days:

- I've found that the Guild Wars data file image gets seriously fragmented after 3-4 updates and play for over a month; a fragmented image will degrade performance -- enough to drop connections on you.

- The actual "traceroute" used from your ISPs computer to the guild wars server can be substantially different over a few weeks period. The internet is "mostly" dynamically routed, so you may be going through different computers which may not be setup correctly or which may have hardware issues.

- Your ISPs routers could be having issues either in configuration or in actual hardware. You could do some network testing to see if this is the case.

- Your router and/or computer can develop memory/processor chip errors. I think commercial mean-time-between-failure for system memory is about 3-4 years, for CPUs it is 6-8 years. It's quite possible that over a several month period, you've got some bad silicon your router or your ethernet card. Most memory/CPUs failures in a router or network card can create very random drop issues that work during "network testing" but fail after a few hours of serious gameplay.

In short, there are lots and lots of things that can go wrong. Simply saying that it worked a few months ago, and therefore it isn't an issue on "your side" (where your side includes your ISP) doesn't cut it. If you want serious help from Guild Wars staff, you need to do some network analysis to see where the packets are getting lost.

To really know whats going on with your network and to ascertain if it is Arena Net's issue, you need to use a network analysis tool. Just because your "browser" usually works doesn't mean that the problem is with Arena Net's servers. The Guild Wars client uses a long-running TCP connection to the server, and makes no attempt to re-sync. Most browsers use a very short TCP connection, and often they will "re-try" if the connection drops. Since the connection length is so short, an intermittent hiccup won't often affect a browser -- but it will drop your Guild Wars connection. Team Speak and other VoIP software are more resilient to network issues for a different reason -- they use UDP connections and are built from the ground-up to miss packets (a voice packet in the wrong order would distort speech, so it is just ignored). So, just because Team Speak or your Browser works does not imply it is a issue with Arena Net's servers.
